Maritim opens a hotel in the metropolis of Taicang

On 1st July Maritim Hotel Taicang Garden has open in Jiangsu, a region of dynamic growth, near Shanghai. The elegant 5-star hotel with 257 rooms and suites is managed by Sandro Schmidt (53), who has already managed various hotels within the Maritim Group in Germany, as well as the Maritim Hotel in Shenyang: “We are very pleased to have Sandro Schmidt, an experienced manager and expert on Chinese culture and economy,” says Dr Monika Gommolla, owner and chairperson of the Maritim Hotels’ supervisory board.

Three restaurants and bars, an indoor swimming pool, shopping area, fitness centre, beauty shop and a 2,000 m² convention space will be available to guests.

The hotel building was first active in 2006 and is the only certified 5-star hotel in the city.

“The new Maritim location has an enormous amount of potential – an innovative region home to many German companies and their business partners, who we will be happy to welcome at Maritim Hotel Taicang Garden,” explains Manager Sandro Schmidt.

Taicang has already been officially named by the Chinese Ministry of Economic Affairs as the “Chinese-German base for business cooperation”. The metropolis near Shanghai is making huge waves in the automotive and electrical industries as well as in the energy sector. More than 50 German companies already have branches here, and every year a good 20 German companies open new offices in the up-and-coming economic zone.

There is a great deal of interest in the involvement of the Maritim Hotels group. In January of this year, an official ceremony was held in Taicang to sign the contract for a second Maritim Hotel, which is still under construction. Over a hundred mainly Chinese guests attended, including high-ranking representatives from the city of Taicang and the Suzhou region, the German Embassy, the Chamber of Foreign Trade and various cultural and tourism associations.

Maritim CEO Gommolla adds: “Our Chinese partners are particularly impressed by the high-quality service provided by Maritim Hotels in Germany and decades of experience in the conference and event business. Maritim Hotels will, therefore, soon also manage the nearby Taicang convention centre with a total of 4,000 square meters of event space. We are very much looking forward to welcoming many Chinese and international guests in Taicang”.
