Maritim Resort & Spa Mauritius celebrates 35th anniversary
Since opening its doors, the resort has evolved into one of the island’s iconic five-star destinations and one of the largest resort on the island, recognized for its unique blend of genuine Mauritian hospitality and refined European standards of excellence. As part of the German Maritim hotel chain, the resort continues to deliver a level of service defined by warmth, authenticity, and internationally recognised quality.
Nestled on a 25-hectare iconic estate at Turtle Bay, the resort stands on historical grounds: the former Ruins of Balaclava, a national heritage site dating back to the 18th century. This exceptional setting — which includes the Citron River with its waterfalls and estuary — remains one of the most defining and enchanting features of the property.
Today, the resort offers 272 spacious rooms and suites, all equipped with modern amenities and many featuring sea or garden views, reflecting continuous investment in comfort and guest experience.
Over the years, Maritim Resort & Spa Mauritius has maintained a strong legacy of excellence. Guests enjoy an impressive culinary journey with 12 restaurants and 7 bars and a unique signature dine-around experience, including Château Mon Désir, the resort’s iconic fine-dining restaurant, and Anno 1743, a brasserie-style venue housed within the beautifully restored 18th-century distillery ruins, featuring a Distillery Bar and a rooftop bar. The resort is also proud to count team members who have been with Maritim since its opening 35 years ago, along with exceptionally loyal guests who have returned up to 18, and even 30 times — a testament to the genuine Mauritian hospitality paired with German precision that defines the Maritim experience.
The resort underwent an extensive renovation programme completed in 2021, which expanded its capacity to 272 rooms and suites, including the addition of 60 new rooms. Its vast tropical gardens, a 3,500 m² award-winning wellness spa, extensive sports and leisure facilities, and a diverse range of activities — from water sports to a 9-hole golf course — all contribute to its reputation as one of the island’s most comprehensive and one-of-a-kind luxury resorts.
“As we celebrate 35 years of excellence, we are honoured to carry forward the legacy of Maritim Mauritius— a legacy built on trust, quality, and passion. We are also proud to honour the team members who have been with us since the very beginning, and the loyal guests who have returned up to 30 times — a true reflection of our genuine Mauritian hospitality paired with German precision,” explains Haje Thurau, Regional Director, Maritim Hotels, Villas & Residences.
